Why I Started The Host Hacks

Why did I start The Host Hacks when I DON'T do social media?

I’m going to be honest. The Host Hacks is very out of character for me. Until now, my social media habits have exclusively consisted of spamming my friends with funny reels while I lay in bed at night, or using it as a platform to learn more about something I’m interested in. But in terms of actually posting, my personal page is a ghost town. I *maybe* post once or twice a year — and usually only when I’m tagged in someone else’s Girls Trip post. Even the content I did post were just photos and I NEVER even thought about recording a Reel, before The Host Hacks. Zip. Zero. Being the center of attention gives me the ick. So, as I’ve been telling my friends and family that I am starting The Host Hacks, I’ve gotten a lot of blank stares, long moments of silence, followed by “Really?.... YOU are creating a social media page?!?”

When I am interested in something—  I go all in. I love the deep dive of learning everything there is to know. While diving into midterm rentals, I kept running into the same problem. I realized that the midterm rental content I could find still left so many gaps. Otherwise, I was pulling from short or long-term rental tips, general real estate advice, or personal home design content and trying to adapt the information to work for midterms. That gap kept nagging at me. I knew I wasn't the only one trying to piecemeal together content as a midterm rental host.

At first, I thought I’d just create a faceless, educational platform for midterm rental hosts. I wanted to stay out of the spotlight and keep it within my comfort zone, but then I realized when I see pages that are all faceless, it doesn’t connect with me. The content that I trust and engage with is the kind with a REAL person, who's being honest about all the struggles, what’s working, what’s not working. So I decided to get out of my comfort zone and here I am— a somewhat reluctant content creator, but showing up because I know it matters!

Come with me while I figure out how to actually talk to a camera without sounding like a robot (or feeling painfully awkward). You can follow my journey on Instagram, Tiktok, or Pinterest. I’m so glad you found your way to this little corner of the hosting world. Here’s to better Midterm rentals (and fewer headaches) !
