Working 9-5 and 5-9
Written by: Rene
Lately I've been seeing a social media trend where people share their "5 to 9 after their 9 to 5". Seeing all the things they're building, creating, or working toward outside of their regular jobs got me thinking about the reality for so many families involved in real estate investing, whether that's flipping houses, managing long-term rentals, or running furnished rentals.
The dream is often sold as an easy source of passive income, but when you compare Instagram to reality, the behind-the-scenes picture is usually a little less glamorous.
Many of us are managing properties on top of full-time jobs, while also balancing family life, kids, soccer games, laundry, dishes, and all the other responsibilities that come with being an adult. It can be a lot. Real estate investing often means spending evenings answering guest messages, weekends tackling renovation projects, and more time than you'd like wandering the aisles of a home improvement store. For me, my "5 to 9" and many weekends are spent trying to check items off an ever-growing project list, with a busy toddler in tow, but I would not change it.
One of the reasons I started The Host Hacks was to share a little more of the real, behind-the-scenes experience of hosting rentals, renovating properties, and turning them into thoughtfully designed furnished homes. Because while real estate can absolutely create additional income and opportunities, it isn't always easy, passive, or glamorous. But for many of us, it's still worth it.
I’m so glad you found your way to this little corner of the hosting world. Here’s to better Midterm rentals (and finding the balance in the busy).
